A HANDS-ON WETLAND RESTORATION WORKSHOP FOR PROFESSIONALS

Dates:  June 23 and 24, 2015

Location:  Long Pasture Wildlife Sanctuary, 345 Bone Hill Rd. Barnstable, MA 02637

Hosted and organized by:  Mass Audubon and the Center for Wetlands and Stream Restoration.

Sponsored by: The Amphibian and Reptile Conservancy (ARC)

About the Workshop:

This hands-on workshop is designed for individuals interested in learning how to use practical, low cost techniques for restoring naturally appearing and functioning wetlands. Lead by wetland restoration expert Tom Biebighauser, participants will see how wetland projects can be planned in land trust properties and other private conserved lands, public land, and even on school grounds to benefit plants, animals, and people. Through direct participation in an actual wetland restoration project at Ashumet Holly Wildlife Sanctuary in East Falmouth, attendees will discover how to identify degraded wetlands suitable for restoration, test soils, choose construction techniques, work with heavy equipment operators, and establish native plants. Also, participants will learn about active management projects involving rare wetland species including Mass Audubon’s Eastern Spadefoot Toad Restoration Project on Cape Cod. Field trips to proposed and existing wetland restoration project sites on Mass Audubon Sanctuaries are included.

Workshop proceeds will support Long pasture’s Spadefoot Toad and Wetland restoration Project.

Cost: $225 ($168 for non-profits) which includes lunches on two days, hand-out materials, signed copy of the book Wetland Restoration and Construction - A Technical Guide by Thomas Biebighauser, and more!
